Slamdance began in January 1995 when a group of first-time directors screened their films as an alternative to Sundance Film Festival. Our objective today is to recognize and support new filmmakers and screenwriters on an ongoing basis.

Now in its seventh year, the screenplay competition has evolved into five genre-specific categories recognizing the unuusal, the brilliant, the never before imagined.

Submissions are scored on character development, story, dialogue, structure and originality. New in 2002, we will recognize semi-finalists in the following genre-specific categories: Big Budget, No-Low Budget, Sci Fi, Comedy, and shorts.

An increasingly popular aspect of the competition is that writers are invited to call for feedback on their submissions. This way writers who aren't officially recognized can still receive input on their work.

For more information, see our press release at Propaganda. Many thanks to everyone who entered, and don't forget to call about your Screenplay Coverage!
