Slamdance 2001 Film Festival
January 20-27, 2001
Park City, Utah

(plus screenings in Salt Lake City!)

Festival 2001 broke a lot of new ground, and was one of our best to date. We've still got the schedule, information, and individual film pages (which include synopsis, contact info, director info, warstory, photo, etc.) online (click on one of the links to your left).

Best of all, you can relive those Kodak moments at Spykam 2001.

"Slamdance has become THE festival to watch for the next big thing."
- Chris Gore, The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide

"Getting into Slamdance was the easiest ten pounds I ever lost."
- Heidi Van Lier, Chi Girl
Slamdance '99 Grand Jury Prize Winner

"Slamdance is the younger, smaller - and according to Newsweek - hipper festival."
- Los Angeles Times

"Winning Slamdance helped pave the way to Cannes and a dozen other international festivals."
- Frank Novak, Good Housekeeping
Slamdance 2000 Grand Jury Feature Winner
(acquired by Shooting Gallery/Univeral)

"Slamdance is the edgier alternative to the Sundance festival."
- Jen Muehlbauer, Boston Globe

"In the same week I learned that my film had made the top ten for the Oscars, I won the Slamdance audience award. I mean it sincerely, when I say that the honor at Slamdance has proven equally helpful to my career as the acknowledgement by the Academy (and the parties were better at Slamdance)."
- Robert Peters, Mutual Love Life
Slamdance 2000 Audience Award for Best Short

"A masterfully engineered carnival of film, a recipe for joy & creativity & folly that can be never written down."
- Rod Hewitt, TNT Roughcut

"Despite being organized 'by filmmakers,' Slamdance is incredibly well run."
- Mitchell Rose, Elevator World
Slamdance 2000 Grand Jury Short Winner

BY FILMMAKERS
FOR FILMMAKERS

Slamdance started in January 1995, when a group of first-time directors screened their films concurrent with the Sundance Film Festival. Today, Slamdance has expanded into a support system for new filmmakers - including our own screenplay competition. The festival is still organized and programmed by filmmakers (mainly Slamdance alumni). Last year, we gave away over $70,000 worth of cash and prizes at our awards ceremony. Several films got picked up for distribution. Almost all the films got invited to other festivals (inlcuding Cannes). And Slamdance films have been nominated for Spirit Awards and even an Oscar!

Our feature competition is devoted to films by first-time directors who have made films that do not have domestic distribution or hefty budgets. However, we usually show several films that fall outside of these criteria. We do not have any strict "premiere" requirements. We welcome films in any subject matter, length, format (including digital and video), finished or not. And we can project in either film or digital video.

Slamdance is dedicated to new filmmakers. That is our objective - always has been, always will be.
