On The Road

In the tradition of Jack Kerouac and Willie Nelson, Slamdance has taken it’s act “ON THE ROAD” and shown many of our films to cinema-starved cities across the globe. So don’t worry if you missed the big event in January - we might be coming to a city near you!

Slamdance is a symbol more than it is a festival. The same spirit of freedom found in American Mythology is embodied by this little festival that can. Not bowing to corporate or popular pressures, Slamdance has remained true to its motto of supporting first time filmmakers. Year after year, city after city, Slamdance and its On the Road series carries this banner of freedom to those who desire the refreshing winds of liberty.

OTR 2001...
  • Cannes, France - May 13-17. Screenings in conjunction with Off Cannes (May 13) and Augora Media’s Cineguinguette (May 17).
  • Baltimore, Maryland - May 3-6. In conjunction with the Maryland Film Festival.
  • Brooklyn, New York - March 16-18. We screened our award winners and had a fantastic response. Look for our return next year to the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
  • Baltimore, Maryland - March 25. A selection of short films were screened at Baltimore’s Charles Theatre. Go Ravens!
  • Washington, DC - April 5-6. Once again we went to our nation’s capital and had a fantastic time at the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum.
  • Los Angeles, California - Feb. 7-8, 2001. Best of Slamdance 2001 at the American Cinematheque's Egyptian Theatre. The line streached from the Box Office to Hollywood Blvd. Enough said! Special thanks to the country/rock band “Hank Floyd” for warming us up before the show.
OTR 2000...
  • Las Vegas - Nov. 28 - Dec. 3. Slamdance in Vegas, Baby! What could be cooler? Held in conjunction with CineVegas.
  • Jackson Hole, Wyoming - Nov. 3. Yes, it was Wyoming. No, we didn’t see Harrison Ford. However, we did meet many new friends who were excited that Slamdance brought a great selection of short films. Special thanks to Mary for all of her hard work!
  • New York City - Sept. 16-20. Slamdance had a very successful trip to the Big Apple incorporating three big events: Our On the Road screenings at the Pioneer Theater, a "Free Brunch Film Festival Snackdown" for filmmakers attending the IFFM, and a big party in conjunction with our friends at The Reel Roundtable. Check out the SpyKam pictures from all those events, including a personal travelogue from our own Troy Lamberth - making his first trip to New York City!
  • Toronto, Canada - Sept. 7-16. What's a major international film festival without Slamdance getting in the way? Thanks to Vem, Fred and Finu for spreading the love.
  • San Francisco - Sept. 3-4. At Foreign Cinema theater and restaurant (2534 Mission Street, www.foreigncinema.com) If you lived in SF and had't made it to the new Foreign Cinema, this was your chance. Ever wanted to watch a Slamdance film while eating frog legs and escargot? It's just like Cannes, except the waiters are polite! Everything went great, and many thanks to the Foreign Cinema and all the participating filmmakers.
  • Chicago - Aug. 18-24. Well, we didn't have much to do with it, but we're happy to see that our comrades at the Chicago Underground Film Festival screened 13 films from Slamdance 2000 at their festival! So if you lived in Chicago, and always wanted to get a taste of Slamdance without going to Utah, there was your chance - the CUFF is a great festival that started the same year as Slamdance! We hope you checked out the following Slamdance features: Josh Ferrazzano's SYSTEM NOISE and Aaron Barnett's SEARCHING FOR ROGER TAYLOR, and the shorts: Louis Camara Silva's ENDGAME, Monika Mitchell's NIGHT DEPOSIT, Marianna Yarovskaya's UNDESIRABLES, Shane Acker's THE HANGNAIL, Lee Demarbre's Spirit of Slamdance Award Winner HARRY KNUCKLES AND THE TREASURE OF THE AZTEC MUMMY, Noel Dowd's HELLO KITTY, Tim Vierling's THE WARHAUL, Dewey Nicks' HELL HOUSE, O Perez's PACIFIER, Chris Harris' FAMILY PORTRAIT and Britta Hosman & Rob Smits' BEST IN BEEF.
  • Santiago, Chile - Aug. 10-15 (in conjunction with the Santiago International Short Film Festival at Hoyt's Cinema in the heart of downtown Santiago) Assuming they made it through customs and the national censorship board, there should have been a nice collection of Slamdance 1999 and 2000 short films!
  • Salt Lake City/Park City (Summer Event), June 29-30
  • Cannes, May 13-17
  • Amsterdam, May 12
  • Baltimore, April 27-30
  • Los Angeles, March 22-23
  • Washington, D.C., March 16-17
